Minnesota sends: Matt Adams STL 16:$1M, 17:$2M, 18:$3M Tim Cooney STL - prospect Alex Meyer MIN - prospect
Toronto sends: Jose Quintana CWS 16:$3.8M, 17:$6M, 18:$8.35M, 19:$10.5M club option ($1M buyout), 20:$10.5M club option ($1M buyout) Roberto Osuna TOR 16-19: $0.5M Michael Reed MIL - prospect
I wanted to pull in a good SP and Quintana fits the bill, fairly affordable for the next few years. Phil Rogers being interviewed on MLB Network just called him one of the best kept secrets in baseball. Osuna, if he holds either 8th or 9th inning role is a nice name for me to add to a nice bullpen that includes Rosenthal, Perkins, Tolleson, Capps, Dyson and Boyer. Reed gives me a solid bat in the Minors that could be getting playing time in Milwaukee's OF later this year or next, who may be just ahead of Phillips who's coming.
I was willing to move Adams because I landed Goldschmidt in my last trade, and I have a couple other options at 1B. I hate to move a couple of my top pitching prospects in Cooney and Meyer, but I'm happy with the Major League pitching return I'm getting. Cooney should see time in the Cardinals rotation this year, and Meyer could be a good late inning guy in Minnesota as early as this year.
Good luck to T.J. and his Toronto Brewers.

A big thing for me was filling a hole at 1b for cheap, and a good prospect with Cooney, he has a good track record and with Lynn out he may end up in the rotation. With Meyer, I'm taking more of a risk but hopefully he can put it together.
