The NY Royals agree to send:
Lance McCullers, P (HOU) - '21: $3M, '22: $5M
to the Cleveland Braves for:
Stephen Strasburg, P (WAS) - '21: $15M
Mason Martin, 1B/OF (PIT) - prospect
Taj Bradley, P (TBR) - prospect
ROYALS LOGIC: While I hate to lose McCullers, I think this return justifies it. Strasburg has dealt with injuries the last 2 years and this most recent one is concerning. That being said, Strasburg is an easy RFA candidate so there will be some sort of concern with either Strasburg at a lower cost or a draft pick. Martin helps shore up my 1B depth and continues to hit well in the minors. Bradley is the key to this deal for me. He is pitching lights out in Low A at 2 years younger then the average age of that league. I think he is a fast-riser and could be top-100 material by next year. Plus, the Rays have proved that they can develop young pitching extremely well and that doubly excites me on his addition. Easy discussions with Drew and thanks to him for his patience on closing this deal.
