I wasn’t going to be able to tag Wheeler myself because of the other players I had available. I knew that he had value and Dave was willing to part with a decent pick and an upside young pitcher who I feel will be successful in his first full year in Texas.

Agreed. I am happy to add a solid arm like Wheeler which will give me someone to place a prospect tag on, even though it cost some younger talent.

Wheeler is ineligible to be prospect tagged, as his salary was $3M last year and was therefore wrapping up his arbitration years, not his 4 prospect years at $0.5M.

I’m confused on their historical salaries and what is different in this league than in DD1. Wheeler should have finished his fourth year of control last year and therefore be prospect tag eligible. Why are his salaries different. I don’t believe he had 4 years at $500k

Wheeler was signed as a free agent in DD1 for 2 years at 500K (so he isn't Prospect Tag eligible there either). Here, when the league started, he had 1 pre-arb 1 year left, so his salaries were 500K/1/2/3 as was our startup structure for players of those years.

I am going to nullify/reverse this trade. There was confusion on both Dave and Houston's part regarding Wheeler's status as Prospect Tag eligible.
