Ah, good point. Soler would probably be included in the poll that is currently up on international signees.

Then Soler is another guy we need to add to the list on which we're voting to determine how this plays out. Less than 130 AB in Majors, but signed to an MLB contract. By the way, not sure where those numbers are from Scott, but right on Cot's Cubs page it lists this for Soler (taking out the first few years of the deal): 15:$2M, 16:$3M, 17:$3M, 18:$4M, 19:$4M, 20:$4M This is another reason I need everyone to vote on this poll. Is Soler a Minor Leaguer, free this year since he's still under 130AB and then $500K for the next several seasons, OR is he tied to this contract? diamondduos2.proboards.com/thread/30/international-signees-salary-status-inaugural?page=1&scrollTo=140

From Cots see below. As a rookie here, I'll assume that my figures are incorrect (please let me know). In my opinion, if this league is trying to be close to "real" then we should all use the same format as MLB by applying the same contracts. Using any other dollar amount takes away from the game.
Soler, Jorge of 0.033 Barry Praver 9 yr/$30M (12-20) $2,666,667 $3.667 $3.667 $4.667 $4.667 $4.667

Scott, Cot's lists the following right on the Cubs page. This is what we should be using. Jorge Soler of 9 years/$30M (2012-20) 9 years/$30M (2012-20) signed by Chicago Cubs as a free agent from Cuba 6/30/12 $6M signing bonus (half at signing, half by 1/13/13) 12:$1M, 13:$1M, 14:$2M, 15:$2M, 16:$3M, 17:$3M, 18:$4M, 19:$4M, 20:$4M once eligible, may opt out of remaining salaries and into arbitration agent: Praver-Shapiro ML service: 0.033 I am not recognizing the $6M signing bonus that's apparently added in to your numbers. I am also not looking at the 2015-20 payroll obligations spreadsheet which this Cot's page links to that has the numbers you list because those are taking the signing bonus into consideration. Here's the page I'm talking about: www.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/national-league-central/chicago-cubs/Hope that helps explain things. Thanks for asking. It's important that everyone understands and these questions are good.

No. From the time we started making franchise selections, our teams are no longer affected by what happens in real life.

Yes, I want to clarify what Drew said. I've also stated it before in email and I believe on the board. MLB rosters were locked for our purposes once franchise selection began. Kendrys Morales signed with KC a day or two before we started. New York Royals can keep him if he wants. Melky Cabrera signed with White Sox just after we started. Arizona White Sox does not get to keep him. Cabrera will be a free agent we can all bid on. Steven Souza was a Nats prospect before he got traded today. In Diamond Duos II Souza still has to be considered part of Washington's farm system and Washington Yankees can keep him as one of their minor leaguers if so desired.
Hope that clarifies how our Initial keepers should go. Please work on your teams and hopefully we can all get them done by this Saturday.
Once Drew and I have looked over and made sure all initial keepers and at least 2015 salaries look correct, then we will open trading. There will be a short break, no more than a week, before we begin our Initial Free Agent contract offer period.

when trading players and dropping players hows that affect the team salary? two examples of my question
1) I trade Verlander who is $28,000,000 in 2015 for a pitcher who is $10,000,000 in 2015, do i get $18M reduced from my total?
2) I keep D.Stubbs for $5,700,000 in 2015 then by mid-May he sucks and I want to drop him, can i do that and replace him with a FA? what happens to his $5.7M

Lee, Good questions.
1) Yes, if you trade $28M Verlander for a $10M player, you clear $18M in cap space. The Verlander receiving owner adds $18M to their payroll.
2) The general rule is if you drop/release a player in the first year of a contract, you're responsible for 50%. If it's during a later year of a contract it's only 25% (for each year remaining). Here's what I have in our rules...
A GM will be responsible for 50% of a player’s salary (during the 1st year under contract) and 25% of that player's salary for any remaining years for the duration of the contract (UNLESS that player is signed to a contract by another franchise).
There's more to this so I encourage you and all to review. Something that may not be in there is we allow guys coming up from Minors, or players on league minimum contracts, to be non-tendered (released) during offseasons at no cost.

Reminder - Initial keepers (Majors and Minors) should be posted by end of this weekend. Once Drew and I have double-checked all rosters, contracts and salaries against Cot's, MLBTradeRumors Arb projections, etc, we will finalize those rosters, get them entered into Fantrax, and THEN I will open trading.
For the time being I have disabled posting in the Trades and On The Block boards. I didn't want anything posted there until we had finished this initial process and I probably should have hidden those boards for the time being. I need everyone to focus on setting their initial rosters with no bearing on potential trade targets or moves.
Of course feel free to reach out individually to other owners if you want to begin conversations, but let's keep this off the board until next week. Thank you.

Question: I thought the Kemp- Grandal trade, was assumed final before the draft, and there fore Kemp was on Sd and Grandal on LA.... I see Grandal on both mine and SD's roster can we get a ruling.

For our league purposes, the Kemp/Grandal deal was announced 12/11 and we began franchise selection on 12/13. This deal certainly came into play when people were deciding on which teams to pick. Boston Padres has rights to keep Kemp, Federowicz, and LA Mariners gets rights to Grandal, Wieland and Eflin.
The Red Sox/Diamondbacks Miley trade was announced after the Kemp deal.

Copying what I said in my league email earlier today here on the board. Need to make sure everyone see this. SALARIES/CONTRACTS: Point of clarification and ruling here for players on league minimum ($500K) salaries. We need to be universal on this so please consider how Drew and I have agreed to lay this out - just for the purposes of this year and initial Diamond Duos II contracts. Guys who are in the midst of these $500K years will only be $500K until they are Arb eligible in real life. For example, Brian Dozier is Arb eligible in 2016, so I get him for $500K this year 2015, and then I can have him for $1M, $2M and $3M if I want for 2016-2018. He would become a free agent in 2019 unless I Franchise or Restrict Tag him. Any players on $1M/$2M/$3M arb contracts can be released/non-tendered at any time any offseason with no further salary responsibility. If you release one of these players in-season, you're responsible for 25% of the contract for that year. Another player, for example, Michael Tonkin, is Arb eligible in 2018, so I get him for $500K in 2015, 2016 and 2017, and then his $1M/$2M/$3M years would be from 2018-2020. Make sense? There are a few places you can find out when a player becomes Arbitration eligible: Drew's resource www.spotrac.comOn Cot's, on a team's page there is a link called " 2015-20 payroll obligations." This opens up a spreadsheet for each team and has column for each year. It lists what Arb year (1, 2, 3 or sometimes 4) a player is in or when they're eligible to hit arbitration. If you're looking at this spreadsheet, DO NOT use the salary listed because it may include signing bonuses which we're not recognizing. I also found that most player pages on www.Baseball-Reference.com will show how many years of service a player has, what year he's Arb eligible, and what year he's eligible for free agency. Any of these 3 should work for you. And for all those players that are beginning Diamond Duos II as a Minor Leaguer, the first season one of these players is promoted to the Majors the salary is $0. Then the $500K kicks in the following season and these are the players who you can retain for 4 years at $500K. For example if I promote STL Marco Gonzales this season he'll be $0, then I can keep him for $500K from 2016-2019. THEN, this is when our league's PROSPECT TAG would kick in. I could apply my Prospect Tag to keep him for $3M in 2020 and $5M in 2021. He'd either become a free agent in 2020 or I'd apply my prospect tag. Prospect Tags will only come into play after one of our initial minor leaguers has gone through all 4 seasons at league minimum. We may need to clarify the League Constitution as to how many Prospect Tags each team is allowed per season but we have plenty of time to discuss that at a later date.
